How is music selected for Wizard Waves?
It starts and ends (sometimes literally) with Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world forms the foundation for Wizard Waves, and is the origin of the concept of “Wizard Radio” itself – so the plan is to always have a healthy dose of music from the Potter films, broadway show, and the Hogwarts Legacy video game on regular rotation.
There is, however, so much more magical music out there not directly connected to Potter, and yet very much beloved by Harry Potter fans – who are almost always also Disney, Star Wars, Middle Earth and Oz fans. So we’re pulling in music from all of those franchises, properties and lores, as well as music from one-off films and stories from stage and screen, like Steven Sondheim’s Into the Woods.
You can also expect pop songs with magical themes (like Coldplay’s Sky Full of Stars) and classical, folk, or other compositions and performances that just sound magical, though they don’t originate from a magically-themed book, film, or story.
As time goes on and our audience grows, expect tunes to be added to the library based on listener preferences and requests!
